Schapelle Is Finally Thrown a Lifeline

Ron Bakir, Australia's infamous Mad Ron (nee Crazy Ron, sued by Crazy John's for trademark infringement not overly long ago) has offered an "open chequebook" to Schapelle Corby, sending three lawyers to Bali to ensure she gets a fair trial, something that didn't seem likely until now.

A spokeswoman for Bakir has said:
"He just thinks it's an outrageous situation. He just can't believe that there is somebody sitting in a jail over there that nobody from the Australian Government is willing to assist."
I cannot praise this incredibly generous man and his actions enough right now. Thank you Ron Bakir. Let's hope, now, Schapelle can see light at the end of this dark tunnel.

Thankyou miinx..This copy of post I have made elsewhere..but so you know you are far from alone in your concerns from across the ditch..
..I was heartened to read Schapelle is finally getting some help from someone Ron Bakir.. who is obviously a kind hearted philanthropist but also lucky enough to have the practical where-with-all to do so.

..I am though confounded and dismayed at the Australian government's lack of assertive action in this case.....

..I too visited Schapelle twice in Kerobokan, while on holiday with my daughter last month, was convinced of her innocence before I got there, and am even moreso since...
I am also utterly appalled at the inconsistency of the judicial and penal systems in place in a country, to whom we have given so much aid to collectively as ANZACS, recently...

..The horrendous and obvious disparities of the Indonesian justice system, is now as transparent as a belljar for the whole world to see, given yesterday's verdict and sentence on Abu Bakar Bashir*..

..and the WHOLE WORLD should be aware of it !..

..If life is held so very cheaply there, to merit a 30 month sentence for conspiring to take 202 innocent lives...

..I am truly dumbfounded, as to why Australia and New Zealand and all the other countries who lost citizens in that atrocity, as well as the Balinese themselves; are not screaming from the rooftops that any Westerner, guilty or indeed innocent, is highly unlikely to receive a fair trial in a country where such a facile and indeed insulting decision can be made....

If Australia is truly waiting for due legal process in this case, before it acts, it will be WAY TOO late...

Strange how Mr Downer can be so very lapsidasical? ..
To me at least..Schapelle Corby may prove to be another sacrificial lamb led to the slaughter, a victim of backdoor politics and moral corruption, in a picture we are not privy to...

YET SHE IS SOMEONE'S DAUGHTER.. SISTER.. FRIEND..Not some anonymous name on a page..

Come on Australia where is that SPIRIT OF OZ ( as penned on the railings of the Sari Club ruins, now.?.

Fight for your countrywoman...with letters to cabinet ministers, vocal talk back protests.. and if necessary a boycott of places and products Indonesian?...

The Balinese themselves do not deserve another atrocious event to mar their slow but sure financial redemption recovery after the last fiasco..

Some, still whisper words to entrap the unsuspecting traveller even now it happened to us every single day we were there........
Those $ coffers are always empty it seems..

The Indonesians sure as hell didn't decline help from the Australian Federal police to track down the Bali bombers/conspirators did they?..even if they do now dilute the punishment meted out to the latest*..
So why doesn't Australia INSIST they give some help..

It could be your son or daughter they throw to the wolves next..

~~
~~

Finally.. PLEASE can somebody explain to me how nearly 9lbs of Cannabis leaf makes it through two Federally run airports in a bodyboardbag and is only discovered in a tinpot one, which can't even recognise a returning resident visa on its computer?..

Brisbane airport is
one of the toughest airports to pass through in the world in my experience..Even my chocolate nut clusters made in N.Z. caused a minor security scare and a luggage search..
~~
Will follow events closely from here.. and truly hope the real spirit of Bali shines thru all this.. altho having talked to some of the many incarcerated in that jail for offences far less heinous than the one Bashir got 30 months for.. it certainly needs a lot of fanning if we are to find it..!

Jacquelyne, thank you for your heartfelt words and for sharing your experiences. You have added so much more depth to things I have wondered about myself.

Yesterday there were a few articles citing Downer and Howard who are (begrudgingly, it seems) finally taking interest in the case. Yet their reluctance to use their weight and position in Indonesia is still baffling. It cannot merely be the fact that it's a drug-related offence, for Howard offered help to the Australian man in Singapore convicted of heroin trafficking recently.

It doesn't make sense.

Let's hope Ron Bakir and his team continue to stay on Schapelle's case, and make both our government and the Indonesians see sense.

To Ron Bakir, Its great that you are trying to help out Schapelle Corby with funding the case etc. In your most recent idea of raising 1million dollars as a reward if someone comes forward with information proving her innocence sounds great, however my dilema is that if you are asking 900 business people to put up $1000 each to cover the rest, how is it possible? as I have been trying to contact you and there is no details of where to go for this assistance???

I am a 45 year old Mum. To Ron Bakir - if you ever get to read this, I was flabagasted to hear that you're only 27. I can't say how proud I'd be if you were my son. I pray to God that someone GOOD is looking after you too. You are truly a MAN among men.

If anyone has his email address could they please let me know. My email address is Helen_dehavilland@yahoo.com.au.
I'd like to make a suggestion to him.
